(This novella was originally published in The Heart of a Duke anthology).
For the past year, Lady Charlotte has waited patiently for her turn at possessing the magical pendant given to her friends when they were young. A gypsy girl swore the necklace would lead the wearer to the heart of a duke, which only made sense since Lady Eleanor was betrothed to the Duke of Langley at the time. Now Charlotte’s three friends and her sister are all married or betrothed, and not one of them has landed the most eligible, and quite unbearably handsome, Langley. Does Charlotte stand a chance?
Langley had thought his fate was settled he was to marry the young lady his father had chosen. Then she fell for another, and since then, every marriageable miss he set his sights on has done the same. His mother wants him to marry and get on with providing an heir, but he has lost interest in the entire matter.
The final young ladies on his mother’s list have come to stay at Hawking Hall, and the meek and mousy Lady Charlotte seems perfect, until she comes right out to say she has no desire to marry him. Never a man to back down from a challenge, Langley is intrigued. What would it take to change her mind?

I don't generally read historical romance as I like my stories with more steam than historicals usually have. I chose this one first because it was a short story. Also because it dealt with a Dukedom which I find somewhat interesting. I found this story both sweet and honest. Men can be so obtuse at times and this Duke is no exception. Fortunately Charlotte has enough moxie to challenge him until he finally wakes up to not only what she needs but what he actually needs himself. I was enchanted with this story. It is a fast, delightful read and i'm pleasantly surprised by it.Product details

Her Secondhand Duke edition by Aileen Fish Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Yawn! I kept waiting for some sort of drama that never happened. Sweet, but boring.
The plot was good, and could have delivered so much more.
The Hero Duke reads the heroines' favorite reading material to transform himself into a potential spouse material on her dreams...<hint, hint> gentlemen!!?!
I won't ruin the ending for anyone who plans to read it. I loved the book and may have read it in one sitting. The duke was honorable.
A slight and predictable story but with an elusive charm that sets it apart from many similar stories. The characters are believable because they behave normally (within the boundaries of the genre).
OMG!! Such a sweet love story!! The historical aspects were good.! The social aspects appeared accurate. The story felt very authentic. It was sweet, and warm and felt good!!
Short, sweet and enlightening.
Lady Charlotte is true to herself even though her dream is within reach and will not "settle" till all her desires are met. Her strength of character is what makes her shine throughout the book.As for our Duke, 'Andrew', needed to be sent back to the nursery in my eyes many times in this story as to the fact he seemed so unprepared for what a Lady would consider a fine catch. I enjoyed reading how he slowly learned what was needed to gain the much anticipated "yes" from his Lady Love when his title and money just wouldn't do.
Langley is unromantic and somewhat arrogant. At least that is how he sees himself and how he wants to be seen. Charlotte is a romantic and a wallflower. Although she has been infatuated with the duke for many years (since her childhood), he has no clue who she is. He knows he needs to marry, but she will only marry for love. They seem like total opposites, until they get to know each other better. Then they realize they actually have some things in common. He thought any woman with the right background would be fine to make his duchess. However, now that he's spending time with Charlotte, he realizes no one but Charlotte will do.
